Colin Wenham

Wildlife & Estate Manager

Colin is a hands-on wildlife manager. On completion of his National Diploma in Nature Conservation (Cape Technikon) he accepted the job of Wildlife Officer to the Trust at the beginning of February 1994, the first employee of The Malilangwe Trust. His initial responsibility included the establishment, training, and management of Malilangwe’s first anti-poaching unit. His tasks also included veld monitoring and management as well as the introduction of various species of wildlife, including black and white rhino, sable, roan antelope, and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest in addition to a number of the more common wildlife species. Over the past 25 years, Colin’s portfolio has grown to include supervision of the Security and Wildlife departments and as well as General Estate Management.

As a leader with immense practical skills, Colin’s talents lie in understanding and managing wildlife. Prior to and during his tenure at Malilangwe he was fortunate enough to have worked under both Clem Coetsee and Dr. Chris Foggin. Clem was the renowned wildlife capture expert who pioneered the practice of translocating entire family groups of elephants to more suitable areas. Chris is arguably Zimbabwe’s most well-known wildlife vet, having headed the Wildlife Veterinary Unit in Zimbabwe for many years.

Colin has played an integral role in the development of The Malilangwe Trust.
